Ways To Sleep Better When Under Stress
Have you been dealing with more stress than usual? There can be any number of reasons that you might be under stress and everyone handles their stress differently. A large number of people who have never experienced stress before are feeling the effects from all of the life changes caused by the pandemic. High levels of stress can have an effect on your overall and oral health, your weight, and can lead to hair loss and acne. You might be surprised to learn that your stress level can also have an effect on your sleep.
Ways to Sleep Better
While stress itself may not cause your sleep apnea condition to worsen, other factors that can follow stress, such as weight gain and increased alcohol use, can. It is important to get to the root of what is causing you stress; however, there are some techniques that can be used to help you get the sleep you need while you are working through your stress.
Use Relaxation Methods
Before going to sleep for the night add in some extra ways to relax. You can practice mindful breathing or meditate. Adding in a few yoga moves and stretching can also help your body relax.
Adding exercise to your daily routine can assist with stress and your quality of sleep. Exercise can even be a brisk thirty-minute walk.
Limit Screen Time Before Bed
Watching television or being on your phone immediately before bed can stimulate your mind and does not promote relaxation. It is recommended to stop any screen time about thirty minutes before bed. Putting the phone down and switching to a book or a magazine might be a great option.
Caffeine is a natural stimulant and does not help sleep conditions or stress levels. Instead of drinking coffee close to bedtime, try a calming chamomile tea.
